Thomas W. Blume, Ph.D.

Dr. Tom Blume, the developer of the Identity Renegotiation approach to human problems and change, earned a Ph.D. in the COAMFTE-accredited Marital and Family Therapy program at Texas Tech University. His work has focused on divorce, remarriage, and stepfamilies; families in adolescence; families in recovery; new couple relationships; and long-term relationships. 

Dr. Blume is licensed in Michigan as a Professional Counselor (LPC) and as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He is a Clinical Fellow and an Approved Supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, an Associate Professor at Oakland University, where he teaches courses in counseling theories and family counseling. He is author of a graduate textbook on couple and family counseling published by John Wiley & Sons, as well as articles in professional journals and chapters in professional handbooks. 

Dr. Blume has served as Chair of the Family Therapy Section of the National Council on Family relations and as a Board Member for the International Society for Mental Health Online, the Michigan Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the Michigan Association for Family and Divorce Mediation, the MIchigan Interprofessional Association, and the Michigan Council on Family Relations,.
