Thomas W. Blume, the developer of the Identity Renegotiation theory, earned a Ph.D. in Marital and Family Therapy at Texas Tech University. His work has focused on divorce, remarriage, and stepfamilies; families in adolescence; families in recovery; new couple relationships; and long-term relationships.
Dr. Blume is licensed in Michigan as a Professional Counselor (LPC) and as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He is a Clinical Member and an Approved Supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and has been designated a National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Counselor Certification. He is an Associate Professor at Oakland University, where he teaches courses in counseling theory and family counseling.
Dr. Blume is Chair-Elect of the Family Therapy Section of the National Council on Family relations and serves as a Board Member At Large for the International Society for Mental Health Online.
